Presentation of organisation

The Scientific Library of AESM was founded in 1991. This university was established during the transitional period to a market economy in the country, when the need for qualified specialists in the field of economy in Moldova was acute. The Scientific Library is an advanced, progressive subdivision of the university, its mission is to meet users’ requirements as to information in order to facilitate the teaching process of high school. The library infrastructure consists of 5 reading rooms (392 seats), Multimedia Center (113 computers). The library has a collection of 272 047 units, serving 15,010 users per year. The library has been the repository of the World Bank since 1993, concluded an agreement with the European Commission for informational providing of Moldova’s Community with materials of EU. The Scientific Library of AESM is a leader in the national network of educational libraries and one of active members of the REM Consortium. 

The role of the organisation in the project

The Scientific Library of AESM  intends to improve and diversify the informational services provided to students, master and doctoral students, academic staff and academic/economic community; to broaden and facilitate the access to international informational resources; to equip the university library with up-to-date IT resources; and to integrate the library into a unique academic informational space established within university libraries network in Moldova. To be competitive, the modern university must provide a high quality of educational services and optimize existing expenses.

The implementation of the project, the introduction of innovative services in the scientific library of the university will improve the quality of education in universities of Moldova following the European standards.
