Presentation of organisation

The RTU SL was founded in 1862. The library is a member of the Association of Latvian Academic Libraries (LATABA) and of International Association of Technological University Libraries (IATUL). Library structure - Central Library , Department of Textbooks, 5 branch libraries in Riga, 3 branch libraries in other Latvian towns, where the RTU has its affiliations (Daugavpils, Liepaja, Ventspils). The principal part of the library's collection comprises scientific books, textbooks, encyclopedias, vocabularies, handbooks, periodicals, reference books, technical documentation, theses and manuscripts. Electronic resources become more &more popular. RTU SL automation: 1993 – RTU SL automation process beginning, LIS ALISE; 1994 – Electronic Catalog, ALISE; 1997 – Retrospective conversation; 2000 – 2001 – implementation of LIIS ALEPH 500; 2001 - Union electronic catalog of 8 Latvian libraries of national significance; 2011 - implementation of RFID technologies.

The role of the organisation in the project

The experience acquired by RTU SL so far ensures to be experts and advisors to modernize Moldovan university libraries, organize information services to academic community, deliver educational courses on implementation, maintenance and working with LIS for library personnel and information retrieval for library users. RTU SL takes part in many library consortia and has experience in participating in national and international projects and association activities: RTU SL personnel's consultations will help colleagues in Moldova to achieve faster European level of university libraries.
