Presentation of organisation
"Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy is the second largest medical university in Romania, with 10000 students and over 700 academic and research staff. Though second in size, after Bucharest, it is considered the best medical school in the country with sections in Romanian, English and French; over 2000 students from Europe and the rest of the world study medicine in Cluj. The library is considered the most modern and advanced in the country, the first to be fully automated (1993) and using updated technology and management techniques adapted to the electronic environment. The library is well integrated in the academic process, "Medical Documentation" being a course in the core curriculum of the Doctoral (PhD) School, which all the PhD students have to pass. We are also involved in information science research and very active in the professional associations: EAHIL (European Association for Health Information and Libraries), IFLA and MLA.
The role of the organisation in the project
As partners in this project, our library could lend expertise and know how in the field of library automation, user oriented services and user training, acquisition of electronic resources based on consortia at various levels. A cooperation with the Moldovan libraries would strengthen the relations between us and lay the basis of solid future cooperation in professional training in librarianship and especially sharing of resources. We will also help promote the Moldovan libraries at the European level, introduce our colleagues to the European professional community.
